The Warriors started the season as they mean to go on with a nail-biting win against the Somerset Wyverns.
The offence got off to a flying start with quarterback, Max Ayoul connecting with receiver Max McNeill-Smith for the game’s opening touchdown in the first quarter. The Warriors opted to go for 2 and RB, Daniel Abruzzese converted successfully.
Persistent rain took its toll on the pitch making it difficult for either offence to execute effectively, as a result, the next two quarters went scoreless.
In the dying seconds of the fourth quarter, Wyverns QB Tom Golden connected with Matt Hadfield scoring a 19-yard touchdown – giving his team an opportunity to tie the game.
A two-point conversion would have secured the Wyverns a draw in their league debut but a big hit from Warriors safety, Dan Dacey forced an incompletion.
